Discover Harriet Colfax, Eliza Truckey, and Georgia Stebbins who were women before their time, taking on the romantic, yet dangerous and physically demanding job of tending to the beacons that protected the shoreline. This presentation by Diana Stampfler includes dozens of images of these dedicated keepers, their families and their beloved Great Lakes lighthouses. Also included are readings from newspapers and autobiographies, as well as handouts listing featured ladies and additional reading references for attendees. This program will be streamed via Zoom in the library’s auditorium.
