The positive: they had ice cold beer, great server and a clean and well kept outdoor serving area. Let me preface the rest of this review with some details. First, we were expecting fantastic. We have traveled 1.5 hours to this restaurant several times over the last few years, the most recent before this one was in May of 2022. We have previously always found it a 5 star destination. Secondly, it could have been a different chef, a bad day or just the supply chain issue that our server mentioned, but we probably won't return, The negative: the chili calamari appetizer that we always get was not prepared or plated the same as it normally is...previously the calamari was always presented just like the picture on their menu. This time it was almost all rings, was poor quality, covered with gobs of sweet chili sauce. This first served order was also way undercooked (our server tasted it and agreed). The replacement serving was cooked, toppings were served on the side for some reason, one bite was enough to take it out of our mouths and return it uneaten. The flavor was terrible.. The server took the price off that off the bill. We were hungry so made due and didn't return the seafood chowder, fish or fries as we had an hour and a half ride home in front of us.. the seafood chowder was extremely salty. The fish was a little overcooked, but edible. The sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked but were seasoned with something and just didn't have the flavor we had grown to love. Over the years we have recommeded this restaurant to many people. Unfortunately we can no longer recommend this restaurant and that is a shame.
Very Disappointed!! we stopped for drinks & potentially lunch. I ordered a Captain & Diet. I was served an off brand spiced rum. When I questioned the taste of the drink..the bartender went to check to see if they even had Captain. She never told me that they did not have it before she served me my $8 single drink. If you don't have what I ordered don't take it upon yourself to serve me what you think I will like!! We will never return! An $8 drink is a tall double not an off brand single
Beer battered fish fry, coleslaw, and French fries were excellent. For some reason finding good coleslaw has suddenly difficult. This had just a touch of celery seed and was pleasantly sweet on the palate without being too sweet, and had a nice variety of sized cabbage and carrot pieces (not the uniform size pieces that come out of a food processor or was commercially massed processed). My wife's burger was ok, lumited by a pretty ordinary bun. The 32 oz. Blue Whale was excellent, ask for 2 straws to share it, otherwise you might stumble out the door (it was strong). Overall a very good value.
Visited the Village Tavern for lunch on a Friday. Pretty empty of customers. Ordered French onion soup, fish chowder and 2 fish fry. The soups were good, the fish was ok but more on the cool side..not hot or warm. The hush puppies were also served cold. Our waiter was friendly enough. Price seemed steep for the cold fish fry. Won't be visiting again anytime soon. PS: sign on window stating tavern is for sale. The owner wants to retire. Perhaps I should've been more aware of the sign before enetering.
Great spot for lunch or dinner! We had a group of 11 people and was able to get a table within 5 minutes. Food was delicious, drinks were good, although alittle expensive. If we ever return to Hammondsport we will definitely stop in here again!
