Just moved to Canandaigua from Phoenix Arizona. After reading all of the reviews today we won't even consider going to the Sand Bar. Sounds like we got better seafood in the middle of the desert! Guess we'll drive to Rochester if we want seafood. Sorry Sand Bar.
I made a reservation here for a group of 8 for a bachelorette weekend to eat and have drinks in one of the igloos by the lake which was supposed to include a bottle of wine as listed in the event details online. Unfortunately due to a snow storm, the igloo was not possible and the reservation for this was cancelled. Instead we were offered a table indoors as a regular dinner. I paid $215 just for this reservation and was told at the restaurant that the manager would refund my money. Still paid full price for food and drinks on top of the $215. I contacted the bar multiple times since. I was told they were unable to figure out how to refund me after charging me a second time and refunding THAT charge, never the initial charge. This was over a month ago and the manager stop responding to emails and I have not received a refund. Poor management and communication regarding the issue. I will not be going back.
What a difference a year makes. We visited Sand Bar summer of 2020 and had a lovely experience. Great food and drinks along with a beautiful view. My husband and I decided to visit again this summer (8/2021) with our adult daughter. The view remains outstanding thus the 2 stars. However if my experience was based solely on the food I would give zero stars. We had fried calamari that tasted as if it was fried in old oil. Unfortunately my husband ordered the fried fish dinner which had the same distinct taste of old oil. My daughter and I ordered the Lobster Rolls. To our dismay, the calamari made my daughter feel ill and she could take only one bite of her $36 lobster roll. At this point she didn't even want to bring it home so we basically threw away $36. My husband abandoned his $30+ fish fry as well. I tend to shy away from writing reviews, but for what we paid for this dinner for 3 people and the experience we had with the food I felt it was necessary to let others know. We don't mind spending money on dining out, but we do expect our food to be outstanding when we pay exuberant prices. Unfortunately, an outing to the Sand Bar will not become a summer tradition for us - as I was hoping it would be because the setting and the view are just spectacular. Very disappointed and upset that I spent nearly $200 for 3 people to eat mediocre food and we walked away feeling nauseous.
Nice drinks and great views. We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit and sipping our cocktails with a view of the lake.
Just had drinks on the dock overlooking laKe. Weather was still nice for sitting outdoors. Firepits and Adirondack chairs. Lovely. Great cocktails.
