If you only have time to visit a few vineyards in FLX, make sure you make a reservation at Kemmeter Wines. Great wine starts with great grapes and the expression of the grape varietal, the climate in the year of harvest, terroir, and the passion of the winemaker. It is a true art form. Owner Johannes shows all of the above in the wines we sampled. I learned that different soil types vary in heat retention properties, hence giving the grapes a different quality in wine composition. These qualities can be depicted in the tasting: three Rieslings, all 2020 vintage having varying acidity/sweetness. Being a lover of Pinot, Johannes' passion for winemaking can be seen in the Pinot Noir Trio: a blend of three vintages (26% 2017, 28% 2019 and 46% 2020). This wine is elegant and showcases the delicate nature of the Pinot Noir grape perfectly. Visiting Kemmeter Wines was definitely a highlight of our trip!

If you're in this area looking for great wine, absolutely make a reservation to visit here. Johannes is one of the nicest guys, and is very easy to talk to. The tasting room is small, and there's a limited menu, but the experience is very personal and he takes his time to explain the wines and get to know you. Quality wine and quality people. One of my favorite wineries in the area. And of course I have to mention to stop for his wife's dumplings. They're fantastic.

Simply the best in FLX! It was our favorite vineyard. My wife and I were introduced to this Winemaker by a dear friend and our experience here was amazing! Sans dumplings next door are the best too! We highly recommend it. This should be on every wine lovers hit list.

Here is a wine maker who not only puts 100% into everything he does but he's also a genuine and interesting person. Arriving at the tasting room you see a small but immaculate vineyard, a dumpling restaurant (which will get it's own review), and the small house where Johannes lives. The entire property tells you that this is a labor of love and a place focused on quality not quantity. You might expect a top tier winemaker to either be arrogant or eccentric but Johannes is neither. He's both charismatic but genuine and takes care to learn the names and faces of everyone he serves wine to. The tasting room seats a maximum of 6 people so you won't be tasting wine with anyone but Johannes. Chatting with Johannes is actually a great experience second only to the wine. Asking about his wine or vineyard will only get you so far because his focus in the tasting room is to hear your experience with his wine. He has created wine for others to drink and he isn't there to talk about himself or brag about the hours he's put in to making everything. The wine: if you love great wine or want to learn what great wine is, you must try this wine. The depth of flavor, the balanced complexity, and the rich texture is nothing less than bliss. There is not a single miss in the entire tasting. Wines of this quality would cost you easily twice as much (and they're not cheap compared to the rest of the region) a bottle if they were grown in a more renowned region of the world. If he was producing this wine in France or Germany you wouldn't be able to purchase anything because it would be sold before it left the tanks. If you taste this wine without having space in your car for multiple cases you're going to regret it. I find myself hesitating to open a bottle currently because I can see I won't be able to have enough to satisfy my needs in the coming months. Do yourself a favor, think about how much you want then buy twice that amount. I promise, your only regret will be buying too few.

We had a reservation with Johannes for a tasting and my entire party of four all agree it was the highlight of our trip! I was hesitant to make any reservations for our short three day trip because we didn't want to be bound by any schedules, but I am soooo glad we did this. The whole experience was wonderful and we purchased a lot of great Kemmeter wines! We also ate dinner at Sans Dumplings after the tasting! My only complaint was that it was not open on Sundays so we could not go back during our trip!😞 We LOVED it! We will definitely come back to both establishments!
