Speaking Dance Wise

SPEAKING DANCE WISE is a new series of three roundtable discussions providing opportunities for seasoned Tompkins County movement artists, ‘elders’, to share their knowledge and experience through conversations and presentations rooted in 20th and 21st century practices, expressions, and aesthetic shifts over multiple decades. This project responds to and engages with some of the many accomplished dance artists who have settled in the Ithaca area after multi-faceted national and international careers.
Dancers, and choreographers Kathy Lucas and Jim Self will be moderating discussions that delve into the joys and challenges of life in the world of dance, performance, choreography, aesthetics, and documentation. It promises to be lively and informative.
Dance lovers of all ages and backgrounds will find value as the guests share some of the ins and outs, and all arounds, of lives dedicated to the most ephemeral art form. Guests will be addressing specific questions about their beginnings, middle careers, and where they are now, as well as thoughts about the current “State of the art,” and what to look for in the future.
