Buffalo Street Books, Children’s Reading Connection, and Alphabet Soup are teaming up to bring you Arts, Activities, and lots of Read-Aloud Entertainment as we celebrate children’s books at KIDS DAY, Sat. August 13th, from 11am – 4 pm, at the four-day Ithaca is Books Festival from 8/10 to 8/13.
Children, families, and the whole community are invited to come to celebrate words and stories together around our theme of Belonging Through Books.
The BIG “Be Who You Are” by Todd Parr along the hedgerow sets the stage as a backdrop for all-day book fun for families at Dewitt Park.
Book Entertainment Includes:
11 a.m. Sarah Hubberman Smith, ICSD Pre-K teacher reading from the Antiracism Understanding and Activism in Early Childhood Book Collection
11:30 a.m. Stories in the Park with TCPL
12:00 p.m. Meet the author and illustrator of the Llama books (Llama Destroys the World) Jonathan Stutzman and Heather Fox
1:00 p.m. Ithaca Drag Story Hour read aloud
1:30 p.m. Christa & Chloe Nunez, Ubuntu Library family read aloud
2:00 p.m. Sing Me a Story, Read Me a Song with John Simon and Cal Walker
3:00 p.m. Dr. Nia Nunn reads books & more from CUMEP
3:30 p.m. ICSD I-Rise students read from “Stories in the Streets”
ALL DAY – book arts and activities include:
• Book Making
• Be Who You Are multicultural self-portrait making
• Contributing words to the Community Word Wall
• Multi-language Word Collecting
• Poetry to Go
• and More!
Buffalo Street Books will also have children’s books for sale, and Alphabet Soup will feature an activity.
