Papa: Brunch with Ernest
March 20 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
For nearly thirty years Dennis Brogan has researched the life and writings of Ernest M. Hemingway, and those written about him. The objective was finding Mr. Hemingway’s voice for writing and living. Along that journey from the Hemingway Archives at the JFK Museum in Boston to the halls and gardens of his home in Key West, Dennis sought what Hemingway termed the True Gen of that voice.
Papa, Brunch with Ernest is a one-man show presented over nearly two hours. Brogan authored the play and portrays Mr. Hemingway.
The setting is Hemingway’s home in Cuba known as Finca Vigia located in the hills west of Havana. Hemingway somewhat unknowingly had accepted a request from a young female reporter and writer from Petosky, MI near Lake Walloon where he had spent his first 22 summers. Mr. Hemingway spends an afternoon on his veranda entertaining the young reporter as they share a few cocktail’s and he tells his stories.
The play brings forth the passion for the written word that Hemingway created over his career, and for life. The presentation also shares an intimacy and humanity that America’s greatest writer of the Twentieth Century hid behind that large persona which he and his legacy created.
