Maple Day

March 12 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us at the Cayuga Nature Center to celebrate maple trees! While we are not hosting our traditional pancake breakfast this year, we’ve prepared plenty of ways to enjoy and celebrate maples!
We’ll kick off our morning at 9 am by getting the sap boiling! Then from 10 am – 1 pm we’ll have multiple activities throughout the grounds for visitors to enjoy!
9 am – 1 pm Maple Sap Boiling Demonstration
Staff and volunteers will be boiling down our maple sap collected on-site. Learn all about the maple sugaring process and what it takes to make maple syrup!
11 am Sugarbush Tour
At 11 am we’ll give a tour of our sugar bush, describing the full maple syruping process from tap to final product, maple tree life history, and how climate impacts maple sap flow.
1 pm Amazing Animal Program
At 1 pm meet our educators in the Great Room of the Lodge for an up close experience with our amazing animal ambassadors!
10 am – 1 pm Ongoing Activities
Campfire with Kate
Join Camp Director Kate around the fire for stories, games, and more!
Carbon Storage Science
Discover how different trees absorb and store carbon, and how they can be a part of climate change solutions.
Open Outdoors Animal Chats
Meet with our animal care team outside of the animal enclosures to learn all about our animal ambassadors, why they call the Cayuga Nature Center home, and how you can protect wildlife.
Sap Sidequest
For all our young adventurers out there, start your journey at the Sugar Shack where you can take on a sidequest from the local maple producer. You will travel along the trails towards the treehouse, stopping along the way to gather clues to find out why the maple trees aren’t producing as much sap this year. Once you’ve found your answer and report back to the maple producer she will reward you with an exclusive Sap Sidequest button!
