Color Yellow

Next on the rainbow is cheery yellow.

The word comes from the Old English geolu or from gelwaz, which started to be used in around the year 700.

Yellow pigment was widely available so it was used quite often. The Romans associated it with Venus. In the Middle Ages, women of ill repute were required to wear a piece of yellow clothing as identification. A yellow flag was used to indicate plague. During the Nazi regime, Jews were forced to wear prominently displayed yellow stars. However, in some countries, yellow is a wedding color.

In nature, we see a lot of yellow in the spring and summer like daffodils, tulips, and sunflowers. Fruits and vegetables like lemons, bananas, squash, are all yellow and come with the added advantage of great nutrition.

It is associated with joy, optimism, the sun, wealth, spontaneity, and whimsy. The darker side is that it can also portend cowardice (having a yellow streak), frustration, hazard, or illness (think of jaundice).

In the world of crystals and gemstones, these jewels are used to promote self confidence and positivity.

In general, yellow represents happiness and even intelligence.

If your favorite color is yellow, then you probably have a fairly wide range of interests, are curious, and tend toward the intellectual side. While you are a good communicator and rather dynamic, sometimes you can become too critical and even become anxious. Journalists are often fond of yellow. You will be rather selective in your romantic partner looking for someone who is grounded. Because you are so optimistic, you are good at gleaning information from other people.

So, overall we can infer that yellow is certainly going to grab your attention. Think about crime scene tape. Consider how it is used in marketing and advertisements to catch your eye or draw you to information the seller is trying to promote.

At the same time, because of the amount of reflected light, yellow typeface is very difficult to read. This can result in frustration. People who study these things find that it is more easy to lose your temper in a room painted yellow and babies will cry more in yellow rooms.
