Family Activities for Labor Day

30 August 2022

Here we are already…the last three-day federal holiday for the summer. There are lots of opportunities in the Finger Lakes area and here are some examples.

Amy and the Orphans

If you enjoy live theater, catch this production at the Bristol Valley Theater. It is a poignant tale centering around an individual with an intellectual disability and her siblings as they travel to their father’s funeral.

Running through September 4, the theater is located at 151 S. Main St., Naples NY, and the curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $19 to $40 each. The theater is requiring masks and proof of vaccination. For more information and to order tickets, call 585-374-6318 or visit bvtnaples.org.

North Shore Lakefront Tour

Spend a lovely afternoon touring Finger Lakes’ fourth largest body of water, Canandaigua Lake, “Gem of the Finger Lakes”. The tour includes a farm to table lunch, history, wine and beer tastings, legends of the Seneca Native American tribe, and more all on Saturday, September 3. Check out https://www.flfoodtours.com/ for details. The cost is $150 per person and begins at Noon.

Neighbors Free Weekend

In today’s world very little is free. This is a good opportunity to tour the Genesee Country Village and Museum and the neighborhoods in the area. It includes the Historic Village, picnic on Great Meadow, nature trails, and lots of fun people to do it with.

The admission is free to those who live in the vicinity but the event is open to anyone. Just show your driver’s license or utility bill, and your ZIP code is the golden ticket to the day. Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. On September 3 and 4. Phone: (585)-538-6822 or visit https://www.gcv.org/events/neighbors-free-weekend/.

Night Ranger at Chevy Court Stage

If you are planning to visit the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, plan your outing for September 5. The fair admission also gets you to the Night Ranger concert this Labor Day beginning at 4:00 p.m. The rock group has not been here since 2014, so make some memories. Location: Chevy Court Stage at the NY State Fair Grounds, 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse NY 13209 , Syracuse NY Website: https://nysfair.ny.gov/event/night-ranger/

Windmill Farm and Craft Market

Satisfy your urge to shop by visiting the Windmill. It is open on Labor Day for your convenience and fun. Starting at 8:00 a.m., visit the booths and see what treasures you find. This may be a good time to start your Holiday shopping. The Lakeside Country Cloggers will offer entertainment for this free event. The Windmill Farm and Craft Market, 3900 State Route 14A , Penn Yanm, NY

Blue Star at Corning Museum of Glass

The Corning Museum is always a good choice for a family event. However, their Blue Star program ends on Labor Day. The Blue Star Museums promotion offers free admission for active duty military and their families. This free admission is good for two consecutive days. Although the free admission ends this weekend, they still offer a 15% discount to active military personnel and veterans throughout the year.

The Museum opens at 9:00 a.m. and is located at 1 Museum Way , Corning NY, Phone: (607)-937-5371.

This should give you a good start on family activities for the Labor Day weekend. If you are looking for conversation starters, talk about funny things that have happened at any of the jobs you have held through the years, aspirations when you were a kid, or future goals.
