Collagraph comes from the word collage. Collagraph is a versatile form of printmaking where textured materials are attached to a plate. Collagraph plates are usually made of paper or matboard. Materials adhered to the plate can be other papers, tape, glue, stickers, string, etc…or certain organic materials, like feathers or leaves. Collagraphs can be hand-printed or press-printed, either in intaglio (where the ink stays in the depressed areas of the plate after wiping) or in relief (where the upper surfaces hold ink applied with small rollers…called brayers).
Bill DeMott is an artist and teacher who lives in Oswego NY. He was born and raised in Newark, NY and attended SUNY Oswego and Indiana University of Pa. He teaches art classes and workshops at colleges and community arts venues across Central NY. He is currently the Exhibition Coordinator for the Art Association of Oswego.
